Before You See The Best Man…

The Best Man The Final Chapters, The Best Man review, Best Man series, Best Man Series review

I know you think that you should go and see The Best Man: The Final Chapters.  However, before you pay  to see The Best Man: The Final Chapters, read this review.  The Best Man is a decent story with decent themes. You can almost say the same for The Best Man, The Final Chapters. However, what is absolutely horrible and embarrassing about these works (the latter more so than the former) is the recurring ethnic slur spoken by the cast members towards one another.

What does it say… that even well-achieved and settled African American men and women-as so wonderfully depicted by the writer-are still casually addressing one another with a racial slur?  It is very alarming that the same racial slur that has been used against stolen, sold or traded African men, women, children and their descendants throughout the diaspora has once again found it’s way into African American-promoted dialogue?  Why? What is it about some of the descendants of these stolen, sold or traded men, women and children that inspires them to reinforce this historic hatred with contemporary self-hatred under the guise of artistry, comedy, poetry and music?  Why is there a segment of the African diaspora community that identifies a racial slur with authenticity and comfort?  Surely, the answer can be psychologically and clinically explored from many angles but it really just boils down to the acceptance and perpetuation of a wilted identity.  Media is a very powerful tool and members of the diaspora are responsible for their own respective images, no one else. Do better, guys.
